Ain Shams University operates the Innovation and Training Sector (ITS) as a specialized division dedicated to bridging the gap between academic research and the global labor market through entrepreneurship and professional capacity building. As the first sector in a public university to consolidate innovation, employment, and continuous development under a single administrative umbrella, it functions as a central hub for knowledge-based economic solutions.
Institutional Framework and Leadership
The sector is led by Executive Director and CEO Prof. Neveen Asem Ashaat, who also oversees the Training and Development Center. The organizational structure is divided into three specialized arms: the Training and Development Center (TDC), the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (I-HUB), and the ASU Career Center. Each division is managed by dedicated leadership, including Dr. Mohamed Magdy Mohamed Abdo at I-HUB and Dr. Ola Samy at the Career Center, ensuring a targeted approach to faculty development, student innovation, and corporate recruitment.
Core Operational Pillars
The Training and Development Center serves as the university’s internationally certified development arm, focusing on the professional growth of faculty members and community institutions. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (I-HUB) provides the resources and mentorship necessary for breakthrough ideas and entrepreneurial endeavors. Complementing these is the ASU Career Center, which facilitates industry connections and provides comprehensive career guidance to prepare students for successful professional entry.
Strategic Initiatives and Market Integration
Recent strategic moves indicate an increasing focus on the commercialization of academic output. In October 2025, Ain Shams University established the “Innovation and Educational Services Company,” a dedicated entity designed to link scientific research directly with labor market requirements. This initiative was supported by the “Made in Ain Shams University – Industry Day” forum in November 2025, which showcased university-led industrial innovations. Furthermore, the sector continues to scale its outreach through events such as the 2025 Career Week, the largest edition in the university’s history.
Historical Evolution and Impact Metrics
The sector’s foundations date back to 2005, when the TDC was established as a national project funded by the Ministry of Higher Education to modernize university leadership. By 2013, the center expanded its mandate to serve local community institutions. Current data reflects a high volume of activity, with the sector reporting 155,929 training sessions, 20,540 workshops, and 10,912 events. These operations support 21 active projects and a registered user base of 9,128 individuals.
The integration of specialized training, entrepreneurial support, and corporate outreach positions the Innovation and Training Sector as a critical driver of human capital development and sustainable economic growth within the Egyptian higher education landscape.
